- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a highly prevalent chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder. The cardinal symptoms include abdominal pain, flatulence, bloating, and changes in bowel habits related to stool frequency and consistency, in the absence of detectable structural and biochemical abnormalities1,2.
