New treatment option for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
Official title Dose-Escalation Study of Artesunate Patients With IPF
ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT05988463
What this study is testing
What is Artesuante?
Artesuante is an investigational medicine, given as an once-daily pill taken by mouth, being studied as a potential treatment for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Plain-language explanation of the investigational treatment - it is being studied and is not an approved or proven therapy. The study team can confirm the details.
- What it's testing
- Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic progressive fibrotic lung disease resulting in increasing shortness of breath, cough, and low oxygen levels as a result of lung tissue scarring . This will be a single-center randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study of 20 weeks including up to 4 weeks for screening, followed by 12 weeks of oral artesunate treatment across 3 dose levels (dose escalation every 4 weeks), and 4 weeks of a washout (follow-up) period in participants with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
- Phase 1: an early, usually small safety study
- You might receive a placebo (an inactive treatment) instead of the study drug, decided by chance. You may not know which one you got.
