ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT05452772

What this study is testing

What is Psilocybin?

Psilocybin is an investigational medicine, given as a pill taken by mouth, being studied as a potential treatment for tobacco use disorder.

Also referred to as Active Experimental Group.

Plain-language explanation of the investigational treatment - it is being studied and is not an approved or proven therapy. The study team can confirm the details.

What it's testing
This is a multi-site, double-blind, randomized clinical trial of the 5-HT2A receptor agonist psilocybin for smoking cessation. Four sites with experience in conducting psilocybin research will be involved in this trial: Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and New York University (NYU).
  • Phase 2: a mid-size study of how well it works
  • Time commitment: about 12 months
  • You might receive a placebo (an inactive treatment) instead of the study drug, decided by chance. You may not know which one you got.
